Riding the Rockies
It's been 7 days out of this 17 day Great Southwest Moto Adventure. Three days in Moab starting from the 3 Step Hideaway. Then four days riding the Colorado BDR. Saturday was spent rubbing elbows with 540 riders from 37 different States at the 26th annual Top O'The Rockies Rally in Paonia. The BMW Club of Colorado put on a great Rally with the grand prize; a 2016 Utah Adventure by Great Southwest Moto Adventures, won by a very excited and happy BMW ADV rider named Tanja Stoyan originally from Germany. We will be sure to create a Utah Adventure that is exciting, fun and memorable for Tanja.
As we rode our big ADV bikes across many of the highest summits in the Colorado Rocky Mountains the most amazing experience has been the huge size and scale of these mountain ranges. The inclines and, conversely, the descents are steep and seem to go on forever. You ride for hours to get to summits and the same to reach the valleys before ascending to the next. One great thing about this ride is the superior traction over these areas. In the Southwest everything is so loose and dry we are used to fighting for traction all the time. In the Rockies the granite and hard pack with all the small rocks and small granite particles provide amazing tractability.
Today, we leave the Top O'The Rockies Rally with sights on finishing the next half of the CO BDR in Wyoming before traveling on to the National BMW MOA Rally in Billings, Montana.
We have made hundreds of new dual-sport and ADV friends along the way and have been fortunate enough to share many wonderful and amazing experiences with them as we continue our epic journey.
Get your adventure on and start living life! Don't just think about the ride....Get Your Ride On!
